1 Day - 7 Hour Training Course
The Driver First Assist (DFA) training course is delivered by an instructor who is either currently serving with the emergency services or is someone who has previous front-line experience.
The training is designed to be authentic so that trainees can fully experience the dynamic nature of a road traffic collision. Key parts of the course are the same as those received by emergency services personnel.
The DFA course will teach you the skills to manage yourself within the scene at a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) and to deliver potentially lifesaving first aid. There are many practical elements to the course, and it is very much a hands-on experience.
You do not need any prior subject knowledge, but you will leave with the confidence and ability to use your newly gained skills. DFA will teach you to fully appreciate the importance of RTC scene safety, of effective communication to the emergency services, of delivering lifesaving skills and working very much as a team.
The more first responders we have, the better. Could that be you?
If you are a professional truck, bus or coach driver, the DFA training course will also count towards your Driver CPC Periodic Training.
The DFA training course is approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) and our systems and procedures are accredited by BSI ISO 45001/2018.
On successful completion of the training course, you will become a member of DFA and receive the DFA Toolkit which provides all the equipment you will need to successfully assist at the scene of an RTC.
Importantly, you will become a member of a lifesaving community, you will be a first responder on the road.
Where does the training take place?
DFA membership covers a period of three years. The cost of becoming a member is £95 (+VAT) per person or £75 (+VAT) per person for groups of 12.
The fee includes DFA’s 7-hour training course, upload to the DVSA database for recording Driver CPC and the DFA Toolkit, comprising long sleeve hi viz lightweight jacket with DFA logo, first aid kit, life hammer, torch, key ring, ID card and a window sticker.
As a not-for-profit organisation our fees cover our costs and we believe offer excellent value.
And if you are not entirely satisfied, we will give you your money back!

We are proud to provide our driver training course to Certas Energy’s fleet of 1,000 tanker drivers.
The DFA driver training course for: Drivers
As a professional driver or someone who drives regularly as part of your profession, you could find yourself first at the scene of a Road Traffic Collision (RTC).
Would you know what to do?
With DFA’s training you could save someone's life, allowing them to return home to their family.
You will be trained to help the emergency services by ensuring they get to an incident quicker, with the right equipment and advanced knowledge of the situation awaiting them.
One day you may be involved in an RTC yourself and be in a position to help save lives. By completing DFA’s training course you will join a community of on-road first responders and if called upon to act, you will be ready to utilise your skills and help save lives.
The DFA training course will also count towards your Driver CPC Periodic Training.
The DFA driver training course for: Companies
As a transport operator or employer of fleet drivers you hold the key to maximising the number of lives that DFA members can save at the roadside at the scene of an RTC.
Trained to manage the scene at an RTC, DFA members provide the emergency services with vital information; ensuring they get there quicker and with the appropriate resources. This results in saving lives, roads reopening faster, minimising disruption, and keeping your business on the move. The more DFA members there are, the more effective we can be. If every company aims to be represented by at least one DFA member, what a difference that would make to reducing RTC fatalities and making our roads safer.
A big ask? First aid training for the workplace is routine practice, so why not for the road network, which, according to the Health & Safety Executive, is the most dangerous workplace in the UK.
The DFA training course will also count towards your driver’s Driver CPC Periodic Training requirement.
